This citation was awarded to the 1st Royal Australian Regiment and its attached units to recognise service with the United States Army 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. The New Zealand Unit, 161 Battery Royal New Zealand Artillery was attached to the Australian Regiment during this period and as a result its personnel received this award. The Sovereign has approved the wearing of the United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation by members of 161 Battery Royal New Zealand Artillery.
Personnel who were posted to the unit during the period for which the citation was awarded are entitled to permanently wear the United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation on the right breast. Personnel subsequently posted to the unit may wear the citation only while they are serving with the unit.
Order of Wear
The United States Meritorious Unit Commendation is not included in the Order of Wear. This is because the insignia is worn on the right breast rather than the left breast.
