About the United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation

The United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation was awarded to 161 Battery, Royal New Zealand Artillery for its service in Vietnam between 15 July 1965 and 5 June 1966. During this period 161 Battery was attached to the 3rd Battalion, 319 Field Artillery Regiment, United States Army and was under the operational command of the United States 173rd Airborne Brigade. 161 Battery was also providing direct support to the 1st Royal Australian Regiment.

The Sovereign has approved the wearing of the United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation by members of 161 Battery, Royal New Zealand Artillery.

Personnel who were posted to the unit during the period for which the citation was awarded are entitled to permanently wear the United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation on the right breast. Personnel subsequently posted to the unit may wear the citation only while they are serving with the unit.

Order of Wear

The United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation is not included in the Order of Wear. This is because the insignia is worn on the right breast rather than the left breast.
