Medal Ribbons

Medal ribbons are not only an important complement to the medals they are associated with, they are an integral part of the medal itself. The use of ribbons has varied greatly since their introduction in the 18th century.   From plain ribbons used to suspend medals around the neck, the medal ribbon has developed into a multicoloured device unique to either the medal or the campaign for which it is awarded.   The images below showcase ribbons from the medals featured on this website.
