DEFENCE FORCE PERSONNEL RETURN FROM IRAQ
Prime Minister, Rt Hon Helen Clark and Minister of Defence, Hon Mark Burton will join the Vice Chief of Defence Force, Air Vice- Marshal David Bamfield and other NZDF personnel to welcome a 72 strong contingent returning from Iraq and Afghanistan at 10.00 pm Thursday March 11, 2004 at RNZAF Base Ohakea.
61 Defence Force personnel returning from Iraq have spent the past six months in Southeast Iraq, undertaking humanitarian and reconstruction work alongside a United Kingdom engineering unit.
11 Defence Force personnel returning from Afghanistan have spent the past six months providing support to the new Afghanistan Government and assisting with the reconstruction of the Bamyan Province.
Returning Senior National Officers Colonel Neville Reilly (Afghanistan) and Lieutenant Colonel Steve Taylor (Iraq) will be available to speak to the media and answer questions about their respective missions.
