Aid distributed by Kiwis in Afghanistan
Wednesday 30 March 2005
Afghan families living in the flood-devastated Ajar Valley area of Bamyan were delighted with the recent aid given by the New Zealand Provincial reconstruction Team, says New Zealand Army medic Private Luke Miller who helped with the distribution.
With help from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, members of the NZ PRT distributed household heating stoves and cookers, duvets, blankets, health packs, jackets, tools and food. “Flash flooding in 2004 destroyed the livelihood of many families in this area. It is such a rewarding experience to be able to help those who are so desperately in need,” said Private Miller.
The NZ PRT worked with other agencies to identify the community’s most urgent needs.
