New Zealand General Service Medal (Bougainville) Regulations 2001

Pursuant to the Royal Warrant (SR 1992/101) dated 7 May 1992 (as altered by the Royal Warrant (SR 1997/153) dated 4 August 1997) instituting and creating The New Zealand General Service Medal, Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to make the following regulations.

Regulations
- Title
These regulations are the New Zealand General Service Medal (Bougainville) Regulations 2001. - Commencement
These regulations come into force on the 28th day after the date of their notification in the Gazette. - Bougainville
- The award of the New Zealand General Service Medal in bronze with the clasp "BOUGAINVILLE" in bronze is approved.
- The Medal and the Clasp are awarded subject to the Royal Warrant and to regulation 5.
- Operational area
In these regulations, operational area means the islands of Bougainville and Buka and the waters immediately adjacent to those islands. - Qualifications for award
- A person qualifies for the award of the Medal and Clasp if he or she meets the requirements of subclause (2) and---
- is a member of the New Zealand Defence Force, or a civilian, posted to or attached to the Bougainville Truce Monitoring Group, the Bougainville Peace Monitoring Group, or any subsequent replacement force after 19 November 1997; or
- is a member of the New Zealand Defence Force, or a civilian, not posted to or attached to the Bougainville Truce Monitoring Group, the Bougainville Peace Monitoring Group, or any subsequent replacement force after 19 November 1997, but who is or has been deployed in support of, or has worked with or alongside, the Bougainville Truce Monitoring Group, the Bougainville Peace Monitoring Group, or any subsequent replacement force after 19 November 1997.
- The member of the New Zealand Defence Force, or a civilian, qualifies under this regulation if he or she---
- has had 30 days or more service, not necessarily continuous, in the operational area; or
- has had his or her period of service in the operational area terminated before the completion of 30 days' service by death or evacuation owing to wounds or other disability caused by that service; or
- did not complete 30 days' service, but has been given a New Zealand Royal honour for gallantry or bravery in the operational area; or
- has had his or her period of service in the operational area terminated before the completion of 30 days' service owing to the withdrawal of the New Zealand Defence Force from the operational area at the direction of the New Zealand Government; or
- has had his or her period of service in the operational area terminated before the completion of 30 days' service at the direction of the Chief of Defence Force for service reasons (not personal or compassionate).
- A person qualifies for the award of the Medal and Clasp if he or she meets the requirements of subclause (2) and---
- Delegation
Under clause 11(2) of the Royal Warrant, the Chief of Defence Force or a Chief of Staff acting for the Chief of Defence Force is authorised to award the New Zealand General Service Medal with the clasp "BOUGAINVILLE" to any member of the New Zealand Defence Force who qualifies for the award of that medal with the clasp "BOUGAINVILLE". - Revocation
The New Zealand General Service Medal (Bougainville) Regulations 1998 (SR 1998/192) are revoked.
