New Zealand General Service Medal (Indian Ocean) Regulations 2002

Pursuant to the Royal Warrant (SR 1992/101) dated 7 May 1992 (as altered by the Royal Warrant (SR 1997/153) dated 4 August 1997) instituting and creating the New Zealand General Service Medal, Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to make the following regulations.

Regulations
- Title
These regulations are the New Zealand General Service Medal (Indian Ocean) Regulations 2002. - Commencement
These regulations come into force on the 28th day after the date of their notification in the Gazette. - Indian Ocean
- The award of the New Zealand General Service Medal in bronze with the Clasp "INDIAN OCEAN" in bronze is approved.
- The Medal and the Clasp are awarded subject to the Royal Warrant and to regulation 4.
- Qualification for award
A person qualifies for the award of the Medal and the Clasp if he or she was posted or attached to Her Majesty's New Zealand Ships Canterbury or Waikato, or both, while those ships were under the operational command of Royal Navy Task Group 321.1, and---- had service of 30 days or more, continuous or aggregated, between---
- 21 June 1982 and 11 August 1982:
- 12 August 1982 and 13 November 1982:
- 23 November 1982 and 15 March 1983:
- 26 June 1983 and 20 September 1983; or
- had his or her period of service terminated before the completion of the qualifying time required by paragraph (a) due to death or evacuation owing to wounds or other disability due to service; or
- did not complete the qualifying time required by paragraph (a), but was given a royal honour for gallantry or bravery; or
- had his or her period of service terminated before completing the qualifying time required by paragraph (a) due to the withdrawal of the New Zealand Defence Force at the request of the New Zealand Government and the award has been approved by the Chief of Defence Force; or
- had his or her period of service terminated before completing the qualifying time required by paragraph (a) at the request of the Chief of Defence Force for service reasons (not personal or compassionate) and the award has been approved by the Chief of Defence Force.
- had service of 30 days or more, continuous or aggregated, between---
- Delegation
Under clause 11(2) of the Royal Warrant, the Chief of Defence Force or a Chief of Staff acting for the Chief of Defence Force is authorised to award the New Zealand General Service Medal with the Clasp "INDIAN OCEAN" to any member of the New Zealand Defence Force who qualifies for the award of that Medal with the Clasp "INDIAN OCEAN".
